Jaw Reduction (下顎骨收窄)

Introduction
  • Among all the different kinds of facial contouring treatments, changing the size and/or shape of the jaw or mandibular angle is the most requested or the most popular treatment. The mandibular angle can be prominent on the frontal view, lateral view, or both views. The prominence can involve primarily the bone, the masseter muscle, or both. Analysis of the problem by direct examination and by consultation reveals the problem.

Causes

  • Hereditary factors include muscle, bone and skin factors. Some people are born with a thicker masseter muscle (chewing muscle), thicker jaw bones, or have more fat stored in both sides of the jaw. Others due to age, their skin will start to sag which gives them visually a wider jaw bone or rounder face.

  • External factors include eating & sleeping habits. Some people tend to chew "hard" food (steak, apple, nuts etc) which gives the masseter muscle and jaw bone too much exercise making it thick and large. Other habits such as chewing gum, teeth grinding, jaw clenching or any other habits which overuse or strengthen the chewing muscle and/or jawbone will make the mandible appear wide and square.

Technique

  • The concept of the treatment is to coutour the mandibular angle to be small, smooth and retracted. Our jaw reduction technqiue can reduce the bony prominence and reduce the chewing muscle hypertrophy through the use of our Re-face therapy.
